It's official! After bicycling 65 miles in the Elephant Rock Cycling Festival, Governor Bill Ritter capped his ride by signing the Share the Road bill into law. This important bill creates the Share the Road license plate and funds bicycle safety education programs for years to come.

The Elephant Rock cycling festival celebrates its golden anniversary this year. On Sunday, more than 7,000 cyclists of all ages and skills rode more than 400,000 combined total miles during the 20th Anniversary Festival.

The Fruita Fat Tire Festival took place April 26th to 29th. It was a time to remember of MTB fun in the sun. It was a great opportunity to see (and ride with) some of you and a great way to see (and demo) a great lineup of this years bikes from some great manufacturers. The Expo had a nice turn out and the after ride parties were a great time for all.

For nearly two decades, the American Red Cross Fat Tire Classic has been a summertime staple for thousands of mountain bikers and hikers, volunteers, and countless supporters of the American Red Cross Mile High Chapter. After much deliberation and analysis, the Mile High Chapter announced it will not be holding the Fat Tire Classic in 2007.

Thank you to the more than 10,000 bicycling supporters who signed the petition to endorse the Share the Road campaign! Your support is instrumental in showing lawmakers how important bicycle safety is to citizens across Colorado.

The state legislative session begins January 10th and the Share the Road license plate bill is expected to be introduced soon. If the bill passes, this will be the first license plate to fund transportation safety education programs in Colorado.

Lory State Park has just expanded opportunities for bicyclists. Located west of Fort Collins, Lory is the first state park in Colorado to open a mountain bike skills park. The new skills area caters to all levels of bicyclists by offering a beginner’s area, pump track, and dirt jumps. This bicycle playground complements Lory’s existing trail system for mountain biking and is already attracting new visitors to the park.

Congratulations to our friend Melanie McQuaid, from Victoria, B.C. Canada and Hamish Carter, from Auckland, New Zealand who won their respective pro divisions at the Xterra World Championship on a trademark hot and sunny day on Maui’s South Shore last Sunday. With the win Melanie becomes the first pro – male or female – in the 11-year history of the event to win a third Xterra World Championship.

Singletrack Scholars Dominate! In the recent 2006 Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships, Colorado schools won team championships in both Divisions I and II. Plus, five of the top ten places were schools from Colorado. Congratulations to all the Colorado competitors!

The seventh annual Harvest Moon Long Course Triathlon and Duathlon took place at the Aurora Reservoir, providing a convenient location for triathletes who live along the Colorado Front Range (or it's just a hop-skip-and-a-jump from DIA.) The race is scheduled at the end of the season, when you're in your best shape of the year! Whether this was a final event of the season, or a tune-up for a fall Ironman, athletes found this year's Harvest Moon to be a great event.

The world’s first 24 Hours of Triathlon concluded at 12 noon to an enthusiastic crowd of onlookers. Athlete’s braved a variety of weather conditions to complete repeated laps of swimming, biking and running throughout the day and night.

Thank you to Ian Adamson (seven time adventure race world champion and three time world record holder for endurance kayaking) and crew for inviting us to be a part of this historic event.

The Nissan Xterra Mountain Championship took place in Ogden, UT. A big Pro field raced for a $20,000 pro purse while age groupers battled for slots to the World Championship. In addition to the championship race, competitors could pick up tips from the pros at one of the clinics or enjoy the XTERRA Expo with food, product displays, a climbing wall and more!

The Crested Butte Trails Triathlon took place to benefit local charities and the Crested Butte Land Trust. It was a great race in an awesome location. Team Shuttle Pack's junior racer took first place in the kids race and Josh Merrick had an impressive finish as well.

A festive Boulder Peak Triathlon provided excitement and challenge for 1650 registered athletes. The morning was just about as perfect as you could want for the start of the 15th Annual installment of the famed event. A large pro field made for some great competition and a woman hit a black bear on the bike course and still managed to complete the course. Yes, a black bear. The 3rd Annual Xterra Iron Creek Off-Road Triathlon took place Saturday in Spearfish, South Dakota. ICORT's afternoon start made for more then just hot competition with temperatures rising to over 100 degrees. It was great to see a lot of our friends driving in from Colorado and elsewhere and the trip up was a true test of the Shuttle Pack design.

The Urban Assault Race is hitting the streets of 3 Colorado cities including Denver on July 30th. This “Amazingly Fun Bike Scavenger Hunt” challenges teams of two to race thier bikes through the city completing crazy challenges. It's a great event for any cyclist. The after party is huge with New Belgium beer and burritos for everybody!

Take the challenge and bring a little sunshine into someone's life. The Sunshine Canyon Hill Climb is a recreational timed hill climb to help raise funds for THF’s Sunshine Fund. The THF Sunshine Fund will provide scholarships to the Heuga Center’s programs for individuals with multiple sclerosis. Everyone is welcome to participate and cycle this challenging 9 mile course (3300 ft elevation gain.)

The 21st annual Ride The Rockies gets rolling here in Colorado with 2,000 cyclists representing all 50 states and four foreign nations. Starting in Cortez, a city situated between the desert and mountains in the southwest corner of the state. Cyclists embark on a six-day journey over 419 miles through Colorado and New Mexico.

The Jefferson County Commissioners just approved a project to add paved bicycle shoulders to Deer Creek Road, one of the most popular front range climbs. Bike Jeffco led the effort and their seven years of persistence resulted in success. Construction is slated for this summer and is expected to be completed by October.

Hurricane Katrina Relief
USA Triathlon has created a fund to provide monetary support to members and sanctioned race directors directly affected by Hurricane Katrina. This list includes approximately 1,000 athletes living in the affected areas of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The money collected will be split equally and sent to each individual in an effort to help ease the financial difficulties they now face. Donations will be collected through Oct. 31. After a two-year delay, the federal government passed its five-year, $286.5 billion transportation funding bill. Colorado-based bicycle industry group Bikes Belong reports that the bill authorizes as much as $4 billion in new federal spending on bike paths, trails, and related programs, a $1 billion increase over the last bill in 1998. Gains for bicyclists resulted from multi-year efforts by the America Bikes coalition and grassroots bicycle advocacy groups across the nation like Bicycle Colorado.
